Story of Little Man

Little Man is one of my first real success stories. He was untouched out in a field for about 2 years before I knew he even existed. Little Man was pretty typical of a horse allowed to sit out in the 'wilds' of an open field with little to no human interaction. He was barn sour and herd sour and a chronic rearer.

My friend got him for free for a while she kept him out with a donkey and they followed each other around. When we found out about Little Man's past I decided he would be my project horse. I rode him a few times. He would walk about ten feet away then rear up, stop or back up. I would make him spin in tight circles a few times then let him go straight.

I started calling him Baja the Offroad Warrior because he would rear up and try to put me into trees and shrubbery. He was definitely not a horse for the faint of heart or beginners. I would make him go out away from the barn and the donkey. I made him go outside the pasture and down the road a little ways.

Today he is so much better, all he needed was a leader to tell him, "No we are not going that way..." a few times in a row consistently. Don't get me wrong he still balks once in a while until he thinks about who is on him then he goes forward no problem. I love Little Man. He is a great horse with great potential and I hope to one day get him to his potential.
